Can Social Media Sites Be Used For Business?

Many of my new website clients ask if they should be getting listed on social media sites. They want to know which ones make sense for them, and how often and what content they should they be posting.

The short answer is it depends. Each industry is different and depending on the target population you are targeting, and the efficacy of each social media site must be looked at for each site you might want to use.


Social Media Sites Must Be Maintained

Once you establish your business profile (this is separate from your individual profile), you must create a plan for adding content. The last thing you want to do is to just set up a profile and ignore it because just like you might open a store or set up a phone line you must have someone staffing it and give people a reason to engage with you.  Although there are systems for automation, putting in the time to cultivate your social media user base has many benefits as you can see in the next section which reviews some of the benefits of social media.
